About Solite
50 Years of Specialist Lighting
Since 1975, Solite has designed and manufactured specialist luminaires for controlled and critical environments. What began as Lighting Developments Ltd has grown into a respected name in cleanroom, healthcare, laboratory and advanced manufacturing lighting across the UK and beyond.
Our progress has been steady and purposeful. Each stage in our development, from Therma-Sol Limited to Solite Europe Limited and later joining the FW Thorpe Group, has strengthened our technical capability while preserving the specialist knowledge that defines our work.
Over five decades, we have built more than products. We have built long-term relationships, a reputation for reliability, and confidence in performance. The introduction of our 5-year warranty, the expansion of our manufacturing facilities in Stockport, and continued investment in testing and photometric accuracy reflect a business that takes pride in doing things properly.
Recognition as Carbon Neutral within the FW Thorpe Group, digital integration with industry lighting software, and the launch of products such as Solex and Epsilon demonstrate a company that continues to move forward with care and conviction.
50 years represents experience earned, lessons applied and standards upheld. Fifty years of Solite represents a commitment to engineering luminaires that perform exactly as required in environments where there is no room for compromise.

Quality & Environmental Control
Solite luminaires and systems undergo meticulous development processes to ensure reliability and are governed by rigorous quality assurance protocols at every stage. The company maintains strict control over materials, components, subassemblies, and finished products, demonstrating their commitment to quality through their certification in BS EN ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems).
In addition to prioritising quality, Solite is dedicated to environmental responsibility, holding certification in ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management Systems). This certification assures customers that Solite actively measures and minimises its environmental impact while adhering to environmental legislation. The company emphasises the use of efficient materials and components, contributing to a reduced environmental footprint throughout the life cycle of each luminaire. Continuous monitoring of the manufacturing process ensures improved resource efficiency and minimal waste. Any generated waste, including end-of-life components, undergoes ethical disposal or recycling. Notably, Solite’s UK operation is carbon offset through an independently endorsed, government-approved, and company-controlled scheme.
Furthermore, Solite places a paramount focus on Occupational Health and Safety Management, holding certification in ISO 45001:2018. The company enforces an internal audit program, conducts thorough accident investigations, and maintains robust processes for addressing nonconformities and implementing corrective actions. Solite underscores the importance of health and safety for directors, managers, employees, contractors, and visitors alike, striving to ensure the well-being and welfare of all involved parties.

Design and Development
LED Prototyping
In-house rapid prototyping of LED printed circuit boards reduces development lead times. New circuit board designs can be trialled within hours of the initial concept and put into production within just a few weeks. Huge investment in LED technology includes circuit board design, software development, thermal modelling and optical lens design puts Solite at the forefront of its market sector.
Design
3D computer-aided design is used to develop and model new products with high specification materials and components. Computer simulation techniques are also used to achieve the photometric performance required. Pre-production models are fully assessed for electrical, thermal and mechanical characteristics before final production.
Product Testing
Rigorous product testing is essential in maintaining our reputation for reliability and quality. Testing covers all aspects of environmental and electrical parameters including extreme ambient temperatures, dust/water ingress, EMC and current harmonics to comply with relevant European standards.
Photometric Data
Our Lighting Industry Association registered Photometric Laboratory houses a sophisticated goniophotometer for fast and reliable measurement of luminaire light distribution. An integrating sphere equipped with spectral analyser enables accurate measurement of light quality, efficiency and colour temperature.
